Blogging
Some people just don't get the blogging thing. But apparently, blogging is good medicine for the human spirit. Read on:
From Newsweek:
Why do people write confessional blogs? It's a creative outlet. It's a forum to vent. It's an exercise in exhibitionism. To mental-health experts, though, it's more than that: a blog is medicine. Psychiatrists are starting to tout the therapeutic power of blogging, and many have begun incorporating it into patient treatment. A forthcoming study in the journal CyberPsychology & Behavior even suggests that bloggers might be happier than nonbloggers.
What do you think about that? Agree? Disagree?

So let's see here. Do I blog because I need psychological help, or is it that because I do blog I need psychological help?
I started blogging to encourage my children to blog, but it sort of takes on a life of its own. Your life becomes the continuing question of "Is this a bloggable moment?"
Then you start flickr'ing and every day becomes a question of "What's today's theme?" and will what I am doing now fit into that theme and how big of a dork will I look like taking a picture of me doing it?
I agree, by the way, that bloggers are happier people.
It also seems to me that you can get many of the same benefits they attribute to blogging with just journaling. I'm not sure there's extra benefit from telling all your thoughts to the world -- and sometimes all my thoughts are not something I want the whole world to have access to.
Yes, that was my first thought too - that blogging is therapeutic because it's writing your thoughts - as is journalling. I'm not so sure about the exhibitionism, though, as far as "laying it all out on the line (or web)" as a form to encourage self-helping ideas. I do think that it is very encouraging when peole read what you right and then respond positively (and thank all of you for doing that for me).
